Lewis “Big Lew” Powell was born in Chicago in 1974. Growing up on the south side of Chicago, he was the youngest of 5 children to a single mother. At an early age, Lewis had a love of sports. It wasn’t until the age of 13 that he fell in love with music. Lewis excelled in music in high school where he won many competitions for playing drums. He continued his love for music even after high school.

Lewis started playing drums in blues clubs in Chicago at the age of 19. This is where he developed his love for the Blues. He started traveling the country and the world with various major blues artists. He also began singing and and doing recording sessions around the world.

After performing at a couple of shows for the family foundation, Alex tapped Lewis to lend his vocal skills on his project for Vintage Dixon. With his versatile vocal abilities, you’ll hear him belting out tunes previously recorded by Howlin’ Wolf, Buster Benton, Muddy Waters, along with some originals written by Alex himself. Prepare to be wowed, as Lewis “Big Lew” brings his own style and grit to the music!
